Singularitive
Ranch
Singularitive Ranch is the pen name for Mike Alvarez Cohen's speculative fiction stories. Mike's stories draw on his work as UC Berkeley's director of innovation ecosystem development, where he collaborates with researchers to commercialize world-changing technologies developed at the university, such as Nobel-Prize-winning CRISPR gene editing.
During nights and weekends, Mike writes speculative fiction as a hobby. His pen name uses an organization's name rather than an individual's name to acknowledge that (as with starting companies) developing stories is a team effort.
Mike has been developing a series of stories about future trailblazers who make technological breakthroughs, scientific discoveries, and social movements that have an abrupt and profound impact on our world—such that humanity is never the same.

The epic stories about trailblazers and their advances elicit a captivating arc of emotions and provoke reflection—at the personal, global, and galactic levels.

Mike is also the principle author of the August 2025 book Startup Campus: How UC Berkeley Became an Unexpected Leader in Entrepreneurship and Startups.
